Rocky For Short

Rocky For Short

Psalm 23: 4-6

Happy Day All ~

I gritted my teeth and tried to remain as calm and "adult like" as possible while I hollered out, "Rocky, COME here!" Rockingham is the full name of my parent's sassy little yorky, who we call Rocky for short. (My sweet little nephew Thomas used to yell, "Here, Rocky for short. Here boy!" Thinking his nickname was "Rocky for Short".) The itsy bitsy dog is way too big for his britches and darts here and there faster than a pinball flicked by the rubber flippers. Rocky and I were supposed to be taking a walk, but he decided running all over, paying absolutely no attention to my frequent calls to come back and wreaking havoc in the neighborhood fit more to his agenda. (I know what you're thinking, "Why didn't you just use a leash?" Yeah, that is a good question I suppose, but we never needed one for my dog, Pandora. My mom & dad didn’t even own one. So, habit I guess...)

When suddenly, out of nowhere, Rocky heard the deep, threatening barks from a dog quadruple his size. He came bounding to my side like I was his long lost buddy and why hadn’t I called or written? I picked up the scrawny little guy and his quivering body snuggled into my shoulder and neck like we were made for each other.

I love that silly dog. It didn’t matter to me that he had been ignoring my every command all morning. Ain’t no way (to all you English teachers; pardon my language) I was going to let that big dog get him or even intimidate him. At that moment, my main goal was to make sure that Rocky knew he was safe with me! I snuggled him right back and carried him the whole way through the scary part of our walk.

That seems like an unimportant event in the routine of life, yet that day God used it to speak a life lesson to me. He showed me the big ole dog in my life may not go away, but He would walk with me and even hold me tight through the scary part! I know sometimes it feels you are walking it alone, but rest assured you have never left His sight, not even for a second! He's holding you, interceding for you, and making a way where there seems to be no way!

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” Psalm 23:4-6

Whoa Momma!

Psalm 57:1 & 2

Hello All ~

I wasn’t bothering anyone. In fact I was in fixed oblivion trucking through the neighborhood on my walk. Just me...not even Herschel... As I walked toward a house across from the pond, I noticed this cute little family of geese; a momma, a papa and a baby just roaming through my neighbor’s yard. Again - fixed oblivion...just thought the little baby goose was cute...I wasn’t even up to the house yet and that momma goose caught my eye. She stretched her neck out and pointed her beak right at me. Then she started hissing at me like a water hose with a leak. I threw up my hands like I was in a stick up and said, “Whoa momma, I ain’t gonna get your baby. Back off sugar!” Just in case she didn’t understand me, I swung way around to the other side of the street so she’d know I meant what I said. (cuz, you know, actions speak louder than words…especially to a goose)
Well, all ended fine. I wasn’t viciously attacked- thank the Lord – can’t you just picture that - but I did think of a cool truth. That mother was just a goose; not a human being with a soul and a conscious and the ability to speak. But I can pretty much assure you if I had tried to get her little one, she wouldn’t have gone done without a fight. Now that silly baby goose never missed a beat. It kept on scurrying the grass for goodies, but the momma...ever watchful, ever protecting.

Do you think for one second that goose is more astute of its offspring than God is of you? You may be as unaware as that little goose, but I guarantee you, God’s hovering eye has never left you for a second. He’s lovingly watching all that is happening to you. He has warded off way more than we’ll ever know. Yes, we all have things in our life we feel like God must not have been watching. I don’t understand those either – but His ways are higher than ours. He provides a shelter for us under His wings until our calamities are overpast – Ps 57:1 & 2. I am so grateful to be His...wouldn’t want to live a day – no, not even a second- without Him!

Oopsie Daisy

Oopsie Daisy

Jeremiah 29:11

Hey Everyone!
The other day I decided to take Herschel with me to run a few errands. We had been a little cooped up and he LOVES to ride in the car! If you know anything about me, you know by now that Herschel is our chocolate lab. I have had a love/hate relationship with this crazy dog...but not any more. I truly adore the thing. He’s my little (actually huge) buddy. I wouldn’t ever do anything to purposely hurt him...even when he’s bad. In fact, I try to find things I think he’ll enjoy just to please him...hence the car ride.
He was a perfect angel sitting (crammed) in the back seat of my little convertible. We finished our errands and were almost home. I was just a-praising him like a fool, “Oh Hershey...you are such a good boy”...We pulled into our driveway and all of the sudden he started yelping and screaming like a little girl... It shocked the stew out of me. Then it hit me... I sheepishly scrunched my shoulders and put my hand to my bit lip...Oopsie Daisy...
I forgot to take off his electric collar and we drove right over the electric fence! I felt so horrible!!! I was apologizing profusely, “Oh Herschel, I am so sorry! OH Herschel, you poor thing! OH... I’m so sorry.” The look of confusion and betrayal on his face was heartbreaking. I knew what he was thinking, “But I trusted you...why did you do that? What did I do wrong? I thought we were buddies.” Whether Herschel thought that or not, I certainly would have understood if he had. I blew it. I messed up! Even though I had no desire to hurt him, I did.
Ever said those words to God? But I trusted you...why did You do that? What did I do wrong? I thought we were buddies! Boy I have. Sometimes we just don’t understand what God is doing. We wonder if God turned His head or just forgot about us. Or worse yet, sees what we’re facing and sits by unaffected. All of those thoughts are lies from the pit! One thing I know is that God loves you far more than I love my silly dog! I wouldn’t even do that to my dog. He’s certainly not going to do that to you. In fact He cannot!

I found a new reason to praise Him that day. I told Him, God thank you that You never have to say “Oopsie Daisy...I forgot” or “I didn’t think about that!” Thank you God that Your ways are always done in love for me, in my best interest...every time.
